Around The Globe in Tucson

Yes, this is my second post of the day but I couldn’t go another day without telling you all about the fabulous dinner we had on Wednesday night at Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails.

As part of his annual summer Around the Globe Tour, Janos Wilder is celebrating other UNESCO Cities of Gastronomy: Parma, Italy; Rasht, Iran; Phuket, Thailand and Ensenada, Mexico. Each city will be featured for about a month. Tucson joined the elite ranks in December of last year and is the only city in the United States to be on the list.

The Parma dinner was delectable. (no surprises, Downtown Kitchen has a way with worldly flavors.)

The three course dinner is a steal at $38.

Diners choose from three appetizers, three entrees and two desserts.

We both picked the Octopus Terrine DSCN2284to start and the Porchetta for our entree. DSCN2286For dessert we had both the Torta Borozza with Cherry Amaretto gelato and the Crosta with crema di ricotta and a mascarpone blueberry sauce.

The terrine was heavenly, slightly chilled and filled with bites of tender octopus. Dressed with olives, capers and herbs in a blood orange/18 year balsamico this was an ideal summer dish.

The crispy porchetta followed. The meat was tender and tasty. It came with creamy polenta, rosemary juice and snap peas and a fennel citrus salad. I love porchetta and this version did not disappoint. I want to go back for more.

Dessert was also a treat. The crosta DSCN2288was like a lemon cream pie kicked up several notches; the torta was chocolate made in heaven.DSCN2289

We talked about returning for Parma again and maybe trying the lasagna, but that porchetta will be hard to pass up.

BTW, there’s a Parma Pop-up Dinner at Carriage House tonight. It’s more than just a dinner; it’s a class that will teach participants how to recreate those same dishes from Parma.

I’m not sure there are any seats let for tonight’s dinner but it you miss it DON’T miss the Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails Around Globe Tour – Parma. It runs until July 11th and then it’s on to Iran.

With posts like this you could do 10 a day and I would still read them all. Keep up the great work.
